The article is dedicated to the memory of Aida Grigoryevna Petrenko, Doctor of Biological Sciences, a renowned archeozoologist, and marks her 80th birthday. For over forty years, A. G. Petrenko had been working with the archaeologists: she treated and analyzed osteological materials from the excavations on the sites of different ages situated in the Volga and Cis-Ural regions. The development of animal husbandry with the ancient tribes of the region became the major theme of her research, culminating in the defense of the PhD and then Dr. Habilitat theses. Her sphere of interest also included problems related to the role of animals in the burial rite. A. G. Petrenko, who was principal researcher of the National Center of Archaeological Studies with the Institute of History, Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan since 2004, authored over 100 scientific articles and 7 monographs.
