The article is devoted to Marina Dmitrievna Poluboyarinova, a renowned scholar, specialized in the archeology and history of medieval Russia, Volga Bulgaria and the Golden Horde. The principal stages of her life and scientific activity are highlighted. M. D. Poluboyarinova’s research interests are mainly associated with the archaeology of medieval Russian cities. She participated in the excavations on the Novgorod, Turov, Serensk and many other significant sites. In the Volga region, M. D. Poluboyarinova conducted joint studies with German Alekseyevich Fyodorov-Davydov on the Tigashevo, Tsarev and Vodyanskoye (Dubovka) fortified sites, and in 1976–1990, she headed the Bulgar detachment of the Volga region Archaeological Expedition. The major works authored by M. D. Poluboyarinova, such as “Russian People in the Golden Horde” (1978), , “Jewelry with semi-precious stones from Bolgar and the Golden Horde” (1993), “Rus and Volga Bulgaria in the 10
th –15
th centuries” (1993) retain their actuality to the present.
